At lifehost360, cloud servers are always created in a project. The subdivision into projects allows physically separate "departments" to be created within a user account. For example, a project for a company's website (extranet) can be created, while a second project, for example, provides an intranet that can only be accessed via a firewall.
A separate local network is also created for each project. This allows cloud servers to operate without a public IP address and multiplies the ways in which a cloud server can be used.
To create your cloud server, please proceed as follows:
Please log in with your user on our homepage and navigate to the dashboard.
As a new customer, you will be automatically asked to create a new project:
In the example we name the project “testweb” and select that the project should be operated in Helsinki, Finland. By clicking on “Create” we confirm the entries. This will take us to the project overview page:
(The e-mail address of the project user was made unrecognizable here, but is of course displayed.)
To create a new cloud server, click on “+ CREATE CLOUD SERVER”. The wizard that will guide you through the creation of your cloud server will then start:
Please enter the name of the new cloud server here. Alphanumeric characters and “-” are allowed. If you want to use the suggestion, please enter "web01" and confirm your entry by clicking on "Next >".
You will now be asked to select a server size. You can either do this with predefined settings or create your own cloud server:
In the example, I select the nano by clicking on “Select” in the “low special” section. This offers 1vCore, 0.25GB RAM and 10GB SSD hard drive.
By clicking on “Next >” you confirm your choice.
You will then be asked to select a network. If you have already created a project, you can also select an existing LAN here. In the example, it is a new customer who has not yet created a LAN:
Please select the required network size of your LAN here. The following sizes are available:
/28 = 16 IPs total = 13 usable IPs = max. 13 cloud servers in the network
/27 = 32 IPs total = 29 usable IPs = max. 29 cloud servers in the network
/26 = 64 IPs total = 62 usable IPs = max. 62 cloud servers in the network
/25 = 128 total IPs = 125 usable IPs = max. 125 cloud servers in the network
/24 = 256 total IPs = 253 usable IPs = max. 253 cloud servers in the network
LAN IPs are always assigned as IPv4. Please select the lowest possible; we reserve the right to permanently change subnets that are too large.
You can create multiple networks in a project to isolate systems.
If you need larger subnets, please send us a message via support request.
In the example we only want to operate one server and select a /28 accordingly. This offers us sufficient potential, should further cloud servers be added.
With a click on “Next >” we go to the selection of the operating system:
At the time this article was written, the operating systems shown were offered. These include Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Daily Builts), Debian Linux 10, CentOS Linux 8, and Windows Server versions 2019 and 2022, each as standard or data center, each in German, English and Russian.
If you need other operating systems, please inform our support.
In the example we would like to install an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and select it by clicking on “Select”. If we want to change the default user's password, we can also do this on this page:
To do this, simply reset the password in the “Password” field.
If ssh keys have already been stored in the customer account, you can also select here which keys should have access to this cloud server. No ssh key is stored in the example.
With a click on “Next >” we close the assistant and get an overview of the settings made:
With a click on “Create” the cloud server is now created.
This usually takes a few seconds up to a maximum of 5 minutes. If a cloud server cannot be reached after 5 minutes, please contact us with a support ticket.
